Lee Stafford Hair Growth Shampoo & Conditioner Review

IMG_1285

Lee Stafford claims that the hair growth system is for hair that can’t grow past a certain point. It’s pro-growth complex contains a protein-based complex that helps to fertilise the hair follicles to help hair grow faster and to its maximum potential length. This is a huge claim to make and I can’t say I was completely sold on it working but I thought in the very least the shampoo/conditioner would help my hair stay strong and healthy.

I have now tested the products for three months along with the lee stafford heat defence spray and detangling spray. I am sorry to say that I was thoroughly disappointed. If anything the condition of my hair got worse while using these products. I have long fine hair that is usually shiny and healthy but these products completely dried it out. The result was better when using the hair growth treatment or shots but the shampoo and conditioner were useless on their own. I also don’t love the scent, which wouldn’t have bothered me if they had worked.

IMG_1286

I will however say that the ‘I hate my hair the day it’s washed’ de-fluff spray worked very nicely on my hair and made it extra shiny. I would re-purchase this despite not loving the scent.

For those that think I may not have used the system properly, my regime was to wash/condition my hair every two day (which is normal for me). I used the treatment or shots once a week. I rarely use heat on my hair and certainly would without heat defence spray. I also only use a tangle teazer to brush my hair. So the poor condition of my hair was purely down to the products reviewed.

These products were on 3 for 2 from Boots Pharmacy and the shampoo and conditioner were purchased for £6.99 each.

Five Products On My Wish List

Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay Leaf Cologne

jo-malone-blackberry-bay

In all honesty I have wanted this since it came out in autumn. It has a beautiful warm winter smelling berry scent that is balanced perfectly with an earthy and slightly bitter bay leaf. In my opinion this fragrance is heavenly and a piece of art. For someone that appreciates a scent that is a little bit different. £38 for 30ml.

Jo Malone Earl Grey and Cucumber Cologne

Jo-Malone-Earl-Grey-Cucumber-Cologne-Tea-and-Cucumber-Visual

This is my favourite spring scent. Not for everyone. I love how the fragrant taste of earl grey tea has been captured. i can’t really smell the cucumber but this fragrance encompasses everything that is spring. Fresh, earthy, clean, green..etc. very hard to describe but I would take a trip to Jo Malone and have a spritz on the house.

Rimmel Apocalips

rimmel+apocalips

In Nude Eclipse, Nova, Galaxy, Apocaliptic and Big Bang. Highly pigmented lipstick-effect glosses that are premium quality for a high street budget. Only £5.99 each and currently 3 for 2 in Boots! They have been compared to YSL’s glossy stains, which I am a huge fan of. And at nearly a quarter of the cost who can resist… I believe these will be in store as of tomorrow so grab them while you can. They will sell out fast!

Urban Decay Cooling & Hydrating Make-Setting Spray

Urban-Decay-Chill-Makeup-Setting-Spray-Spring-2013

A setting spray that cools the surface of your skin and re-hydrates resulting in a fresh looking face. Oil free and Paraben Free. This is my kind of a product and I am a huge Urban Decay fan. I don’t believe this is available in the UK yet sadly but I will keep you posted. It’s currently priced at $29.

erborian_ginseng_infusion_cream50ml

“Ginseng infusion day creme from Erborian contains a highly concentrated association of longevity herbs. This treatment helps microcirculation by infusing your skin daily with all vital elements and nourishing the epidermis to restore the natural elasticity and vitality of the skin. Leaves skin smooth, radiant and full of energy.”

I love the Erborian Ginseng BB Creme and I can whole heartedly say that nothing makes my skin look better. A full review is coming soon but in the mean time I can wish that the day creme will magically turn up on my dressing table…. At £52 a pot its unlikely.

Laura Mercier Supreme Oil-Free Foundation Review + Swatches

Last Year I popped into Space NK and decided to make my first Laura Mercier purchase. I had heard a lot of positive feedback about the brand and was eager to try something. I am a foundation junkie and am forever searching for ‘The One’ that will give me a completely flawless complexion. I was already aware that the tinted moisturiser was a hit but was looking for something with a little more coverage, so I picked up the Supreme oil-Free foundation. A consultant picked out the shade ‘Porcelain Ivory’. She asked me if I would like her to try it on me and I made the mistake of not reminding her to remove the foundation on my face. I was very pleased with the results… obviously, because my foundation was already  providing my face with great coverage.

Image

I bought the Laura Mercier foundation which was very expensive. About £30 if I remember correctly.

When I got home the foundation began to collect around my nose and chin area like I had covered the entire surface of my skin in clay. It was uncomfortable and looked horrendous. Realising my mistake I removed the entire mess of mass-make-up from my face and started again with my moisturiser and new foundation.

The product was a nightmare to put on. A thick texture that was near on impossible to work into the skin. I looked like I had dipped my face into a bowl of Angel delight.

Image

Below is a picture of the foundation after I have attempted to work it into my skin. I can see this foundation working for people that work on-stage and need something industrial to stay-on and be visible from a distance. But as an everyday foundation this just wasn’t for me.

Have you had any positive or negative responses with this foundation?

Do you know of a better alternative by Laura Mercier?

MeMeMe Light Me Up Highshine Lip Gloss

Image

I heard about these lipgloss’s through Imogen’s blog ‘Bubble Dreams’ (She does great hair and make-up tutorials and product reviews so take a look at her blog). I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some. I’ve had these for quite a while now and the labels have rubbed off so I’ve tried to mach the shade names with the website. I think they are all correct but apologies if I have made any mistakes.

These glosses have a non stickily formula and have a slight minty fragrance. Colour pay-off is good and they are fairly long lasting. I was very pleased with the quality and the price was reasonable.

Image

From Left to Right:

*Shimmer: A beautiful and very wearable berry burgundy.

*Show: Barbie blue-tone pink.

*Illuminate: A sparkly sheer pink

*Luminous: Slight sparkle peach. Nice for a subtle healthy looking glow.

*Sparkle: This is an intense pinkish red with slight blue-ish sparkle to it.

The range of shades are diverse and beautiful. They really are a high quality product.

Image

These lipgloss’s are uniquely designed with a mirror on the side and led lights in the lid. This makes applying lipgloss in a club (or anywhere where the lights are low) an absolute dream. The mirror is pretty cheaply designed but still does the trick.

Image

This is the best picture I could get of the lights in action. I hope they are helpful.

You can purchase a lipgloss yourself from http://www.mememecosmetics.co.uk for £6.99

Nails inc Kensington Caviar Top Coat & Base Coat

IMG_1246

I cannot rave enough about how fantastic I think this product is.

I used to spend £25 every three weeks getting my nails professionally done by an exceptional nail artist that works in Toni&Guy in Woking. Theres something about having my nails done that makes me feel incredibly feminine. It’s quick and reasonably painless on your wallet. Presentation is very important to me and I aways notice when someone keeps their nails immaculate.

Three months ago I decided to commit to having some dental work done. I have taken the plunge and now have train tracks fixed to my mouth for at least a year. This is a very expensive process so naturally something had to give. Sadly it had to be my nail appointments. Since I was unwilling to let my nails look scruffy, I had to learn to do them myself.

A good friend of mine bought me a glass nail file which has made a huge difference. I have brittle nails so regular filling is essential to keep them in good condition.

I came across this product as I received a sample of the top coat. I couldn’t believe how quickly it made my nails dry. Literally about 40seconds and it gave my nails a beautiful shine. I had to get the base coat as well and managed to get them both in the sale from Debenams for £14, which in my opinion is great value. The base coat is also ultra fast drying and creates a nice smooth surface for you to add your nail colour to.

Revlon Balm Stain

Image

I was very happy when Revlon released their version of a crayon balm stain. Its more hydrating than Rimmels alternative and cheaper than Clinique’s. I love how playful the packaging is. It literally takes me back to pre-school holding these big colourful crayons in my hand. I love colouring my lips in. They twist easily at the bottom which saves on the mess and hassle of a massive crayon sharpener.

They have a minty fresh scent, which I like a lot and give your lips a nice tingle. The colour pay off is light and they start off sheer after application and dry off to a matte finish. I generally prefer a matte finish anyway.

The pointed end makes it easy to get a perfect line around your lips and the flat edge is great for filling in the rest of the colour quickly and effortlessly.

IMG_1262

I purchased the colours (from left to right):

*Crush: Another berry shade that I’ve worn a lot through the winter period. This is my favourite of the collection.

*Rendezvous: This is quite a soft coral on the lips. This is not the best shade on pale tones like myself and I can’t say that I have worn it yet. I think if your pale but have more of a yellow skin tone than this might suit you better than someone with a pink undertone.

*Darling: I thought this was going to be a blue-toned pink but its actually quite natural and delicate on the lips. Nice for giving you a subtle colour.

IMG_1269

I only have a slight niggle with stains and thats they seem to suck the moisture from your lips and can be quite unforgiving if your lips are a little dry. However I do feel that the revlon stain is one of the best options on the market for its price.

You can buy them at most Superdrug’s or Boot’s for £7.99

Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover

I am someone that literally changes my nail colour every week so I need a nail polish remover that does its work quickly. While I think one second is a slight exaggeration on Bourjois’s part I can’t deny that it is the fastest and most hassle-free remover I have ever used.

IMG_1245

You simply dip your finger into the pot, twist and pull out. Ta-Da! Clean as the day you were born. My favourite thing about this product is the scent. Usually nail varnish removers have an unbearable scent and they can feel quite stripping of your nails natural moisture, which makes changing your nail colour an unpleasant experience. However, this product contains sweet almond oil to nourish your nails and cuticles and smells of red fruit and vanilla.

This pot has lasted me a good three months and costs as little as £3.99. This is great value for a quality product.

You can tell when it is coming to the end of its life as the black sponge in the pot begins to deteriorate and ends up on your fingers. The formula will also become slightly thicker.

I wouldn’t advice taking off cheap glitter nail polishes with it as it will stay in the pot and your fingers will become glittery every time you use it after.

I bought mine from Superdrug.

Revlon Lipstick Review

Image

Around October time I purchased the above five lipsticks by Revlon. Although I had known about the brand for a long time, I had never really invested any time in to looking at what they had to offer. A big mistake on my part. My attention was drawn to them after watching one of Lisa Eldridge’s Beauty video’s (If you haven’t heard of her, as unlikely as that is, i suggest you take a look at her work. She is a genius). In this particular video she used the shade ‘Nude Attitude’.

Image

These 5 are my favourite from the collection. Three creme finishes and two Matte.

From Left to Right:

*665 Choco-Liscious: This chocolate creme shade has been great over the winter period. Its rich and warm and something different to wear in the evening.

*025 Skyline Pink: For those that like sheer nude/pink lips. This looks great with smoky eyes.

*477 Black Cherry: An on trend berry shade that is a real crowd stopper.

*001 Nude Attitude: A classic matte nude. This shade can be unforgiving on dry lips.

002 Pink Pout: My most worn lipstick out of the five. A perfect matte pink that can give an instant femininity to an everyday look.

I also like the shades ‘Mink’ and ‘Smoked Peach’ so check those ones out as well.

The packaging is unfussy but sleek. I like that the matte lipsticks have matte packaging and the creme lipsticks have shiny packaging. It makes choosing a shade quickly in the morning that little bit easier.

For those of you that prefer make-up without a scent, these are perfect for you. They also don’t have a horrible taste. The creme shades have a moisturising finish which makes them very easy to throw on when your in a hurry. Be careful with the matte ones though as any dry patches will be very noticeable. I would advise exfoliating your lips with a cue tip prior to application.

They can be bought from most Boots or Superdrugs for around £7.99
